5 South Asian Beverages You Need to Try

Water is healthy and all, but I love my sugary coffee and tasteful masala chai. South Asian beverages have the perfect blend of flavors that keep my palette satisfied, and of course, they’re super fun to make. Here are five South Asian beverages that you should try.

Filter Coffee

This is by far my favorite South Asian beverage. You do need a special filter to make this style of coffee, and some ground coffee- I recommend Bru or Tata Grand. There’s a certain thickness in flavor in filter coffee that is both bitter and sweet. The chicory brings out warm undertones that make the coffee taste phenomenal. Convinced and want to try it? Here’s a recipe to check out!

Gulab Jamun Coffee

Everyone’s favorite dessert mixed with coffee? Yes, please! This is a tasty treat at the beginning of your day, made through mixing syrups with your favorite coffee. If you have a keurig and the ability to buy some syrups, this coffee recipe is for you. Click here to check out our CEO, Hani Anis, making Gulab Jamun Coffee

Classic Masala Chai

Nothing beats sitting down at my childhood home kitchen table with my mother, father, and sister and a cup of classic masala chai. Milky, sweet, thick, and the hint of cinnamon to tie it all together. The fresh aroma already brings the scent of deliciousness to you even before you take the first sip. Click here for a recipe!

Mango Lassi

I remember when I was younger, my family loved going to Indian restaurant lunch buffets, where Mango Lassi used to be served along with the wide array of appetizers and entrees as a little drink dessert. No longer do they serve it as a part of a buffet at most restaurants, but the memory of getting a 3rd, 4th, and sometimes even 5th glass of lassi is still crystal clear in my mind. The Indian Cosmopolitan

At the end of the day, if you’re looking for a drink that has the beautiful flavors of India, the Indian Cosmopolitan is for you. This special recipe is the classic cosmo with a twist - cranberry juice gets replaced with Rooh Afza, a common Asian drink that has a distinct rose flavor. Interested? Click here!
