Hani’s Monthly Book Recap: January
Reading is something I have enjoyed as a kid but my excuse was usually that I never had time for it was an adult. With my new routine, I have been watching way less TV and reading so much more and my anxiety and mental health overall is way better! I thought I would do an update on what I have been reading monthly so that I could hold myself accountable and share recs with anyone who is interested.
My goal for this year is 52 books - and if you're on goodreads you can track my progress there and share recs with me as well. Link to that is here: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/173481317-hani-anis
My total for January was 6 books:
This one I started last year but again never had time so I restarted and it was a fairly quick read. It provides really tangible business advice in a fun way and some of the examples in there literally made me laugh out loud. I loved the way Sophia wrote this and it was really amazing to see where she came from and how she built her company.
The Cartiers: The Untold Story of the Family Behind the Jewelry Empire by Francesca Cartier Brickell
This was on my secret santa list after seeing Siff Haider, the founder of Arrae rave about it. It definitely took me a while to get through because it is extremely long and dense but it was written like a historical fiction novel so I did enjoy reading it. It never felt like reading a history book and you get captivated by the people and story behind the brand. It definitely is something that will take you a while to read and I did have to take breaks because sometimes there just was too much detailed information.
Girls That Invest by Simran Kaur
This was another quick read and very tangible, a book that I often look at actually weekly if not monthly as I do my budget and set financial goals. Simran's writing is also super relatable and I am glad to have met her last October. Finance can be a daunting and scary subject but Simran makes it extremely easy to understand.
Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty
This was SO good - I read it in the span of 24 hours and I just needed to know what was going to happen. It is coming out as a limited series on Peacock on March 14th and I am so excited. Basically it's by the same author as Big Little Lies and follows the story of a family in which the mother disappears. There are four children in this family each with their own storyline and secrets. Is the mother dead? Is she alive? Where is she? And did the stranger who stayed in their home have something to do with this? I really needed to know the answers to all these questions so I literally sped through this one and would highly recommend it.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I have already read this before but I didn't remember the plot exactly so I re-read this and I will say, the beginning is a little slow but once you get into it, you really get into it. I could not put this down and stayed up late reading it until I finished.
Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
So if you're a Friends fan, you have to read this. This was really hard to get through simply because it just was heavy but a great read to learn the behind the scenes of someone who made so many people happy. It did cover topics such as depression, addiction, and alcoholism so for me, I could only read a little bit at a time but definitely a good read.
As you can see I like to mix it up when it comes to reading fiction and non-fiction, so if you have any recommendations for me, please send them over! I am already on my 8th book of the year currently. Cannot wait to share what I have read in February!
