‘Tis the Season of Giving: Charities You Can Donate To

Bakarat Bundle

Barakat Bundle is a nonprofit organization that works to prevent unnecessary deaths of mothers and children caused by solvable problems in South Asia. Their solution is to provide life-saving care and education bundles, known as Barakat Bundles. Barakat Bundle contains items and health education that are essential to a successful first year for a mother and her newborn. These are incorporated within existing health systems to overcome barriers to care faced by families.

Share & Care

The Share and Care Foundation was founded in 1982 by a group of Indian-Americans in New Jersey. Their mission is to convert "waste" from the Western world into much-needed help in the East. They started by sending used clothes and equipment to remote areas in the East, which greatly improved the quality of care in charitable hospitals. The foundation relies on volunteers and focuses on low-cost, high-return programs at the grassroots level. They have been successful in rebuilding lives in rural communities in India where government and larger nonprofits have struggled.

Peerbagh is an organization that aims to enhance the skills of teachers, librarians, and parents by incorporating storytelling into education. They offer workshops, publish children's books and story capsules, and provide toolkits for educators and families. Their goal is to create an inclusive environment for all children and empower families and educators to introduce diverse perspectives and critical thinking. They also support South-Asian and global artists in reviving or practicing their art forms. Peerbagh operates in Austin, Montreal, Dehradun, and online via Zoom.
