Gehraiyaan - Confusing or Brilliant?
Another Bollywood movie with the QUEEN Deepika Padukone, which meant I had to talk about it. Let me cut to the chase, this movie was weird. I watched this a little bit ago, almost two months ago, but it took me a while to process and just figure out exactly what I wanted to say.
Let's start with the good maybe -
This wasn't your typical Bollywood romance, which for me is a good thing because it was different and unpredictable. It really drew me in and made me watch the film, just as I would think something was going to happen, something else would happen.
The acting was *chef's kiss*. While I think there could have been a little more character development, the acting was incredible. The characters were really complex and multi-layered and that was a treat to watch on screen.
In particular, Siddhant and Deepika KILLED it.
The music - its been a while since I personally have heard really good Bollywood music come out and the tracks in this movie were beautiful. Slow songs can be hard to do and I find that the music composed from this movie is super calming and just easy to listen to. My favorite song like almost everyone on tiktok is the one below :)
So now here are some of my critiques about the film: I think overall just one being the storyline. In my opinion, the character development in the beginning was a little scattered and the plot of the movie moved into conflict almost immediately it felt like. Not only this but my major issue was the last 30-45 minutes of the film. It felt like every conflict was being thrown at the audience one after the other with unanswered questions. By the end of the film I felt like I had gone through such an emotional rollercoaster without coming out at the end with answered questions. Some major things such as Siddhant's job and just a few other details were honestly never answered or if they were, they just weren't to the audience which as a watcher was REALLY frustrating.
Final verdict: Do I recommend you watch this? Yes honestly, the acting was reason enough to watch the movie ONCE. Do I think this is a multiple watch type movie? Nope probably not but for a one time watch I think its fine. Trailer is below, you can find this on Amazon Prime. Have you seen this movie? Let me know what you thought!
