It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of August already. But, all good things must come to an end, including this summer, and unfortunately Britney Spears’ marriage. Along with things coming to an end, we see new beginnings, such as Zoeey Deschanel’s engagement and Olivia Rodrigo’s latest music release. Read on to find out what you missed this week.
1. ’New Girl'’s Zooey Deschanel Engaged
After four years of dating, Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott announced their engagement on Aug. 14. After meeting on ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ and spending the pandemic together, the couple finally decided to make it official with a beautiful gem-encrusted ring that Deschanel sported on their Instagram announcement. Can’t say we’re not sad that Deschanel didn’t end up with ‘New Girl’s Jake Johnson.
2. Suits Goes Viral on Tik Tok
As a first-time watcher, I can confidently say that this show is goddamn awesome. Though it has some flat moments at time, Harvey, Rachel, Donna, Louis, Jessica, and Mike are the perfect combo to create a dramatic, comedic show. And, Tik Tok’s loving it too. Many people have been poking fun at the stereotypes in the show about lawyers. Haven’t given the show a watch yet? Lucky for you, it’s on Netflix, ready to binge watch!
3. Olivia Rodrigo Releases “Bad Idea Right”
Featuring more talking than singing, Rodrigo’s new song ‘Bad Idea Right,’ is a part of her new album ‘Guts’. Recounting a contemplation of whether to get back with her ex or not, “Bad Idea Right” is far from the “Vampire” aesthetic she had initially set for this album. Where will she go with this? Who’s digging it? And, will fans come after me for not particularly loving it? All valid questions.
4. Selena Gomez Announces New Single
Selena Gomez confirmed that she’s releasing a new single very soon, called “Single Soon.” Along with Cashmere Cat and benny blanco, Gomez says that this is the perfect fun end of summer song. August 25th is also the day Gomez’s fellow Disney Channel alum, Miley Cyrus is releasing her single “Used to Be Young”.
5. Alia Bhatt Aligns with SAG-AFTRA
“Alia Bhatt made her big Hollywood debut last Friday with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan starrer Heart of Stone. But unlike other Indian stars whose Hollywood debuts had them touring the US and appearing on many international magazine covers and late night talk shows, Alia wasn’t seen doing any of that. During a recent AMA session on Instagram, Alia was asked why she wasn’t promoting her film and the actor shared the reason.
Alia said that because of the actors’ strike in the US, where they are fighting for fair residuals, the team decided to stand with SAG-AFTRA as a mark of solidarity. Alia said, ‘As a team, we stand behind the SAG-AFTRA strike, and as a mark of solidarity, we haven’t been promoting the movie.’” - Indian Express
