From the Desk of Hani Anis: June 15, 2023
It's been a while since I wrote a piece for the blog, but it seems like life has finally slowed down a little bit. During the month of May I was in a different city every week and attending a wedding 2 weekends in a row. At the end of the month I left for LA, excited to meet founders that I hadn't before. I met my friend, Meghana Dhar -- who has just launched her new website (here). Her story is super inspiring and if you'd like to work with her, RUN don't walk to her website ο»Ώπο»Ώ
We met at Erewhon, which I actually have never dined at but I hate to say it, the food was really good, the juices were absolutely delicious and best of all I tried the DadaEats Perfect Date Latte. This is developed by Samah Dada and features a date caramel with coffee! It's only available through July 8th, so again if you're in LA get your hands on it ASAP!
During my travels, I think it is super important to continue to expand my network and meet new founders in the community. I got connected to Sahil from Raga during the month of May and stopped by the Raga showroom which was absolutely stunning. I got to preview their upcoming new collections, learn more about their sourcing and design process as well as see their studio space. I walked away with two beautiful shirts, and I can't wait to continue to get my hands on more Raga pieces.
I also met Dharni, the founder of Kindia Beauty. These masks are one of the prettiest face masks I literally have ever seen. I was so excited to learn more about her journey building a skincare brand especially during the pandemic and was inspired by her story. The masks are phenomenal and left my skin feeling glowy, moisturized and overall happy!
I came back from LA just in time for the Impact Summit, something I actually had never attended before. It was honestly one of the best South Asian events I have ever been to because the community was so different than what I am used to. It was empowering and an eye opening experience to learn about what was going on in politics and how to support. The Gala was beautiful and I am so looking forward to going again next year.
Finally last week we did our first actual team bonding activity -- before we have just had random chats / vent sessions but we decided to do a flower arranging class with Viola Floral. Flowers are something that make me so happy and just having them on my desk improves my mood. Everyone had such a good time and I am excited to plan these quarterly team bonding activities and support women owned small businesses along the way!
