Surviving Shaadi Season (Literally)
As you know it’s the most dreaded and the most wonderful time of year– Shaadi Season is upon us - with mehndi dance practices and DIYs galore, we need to find time to practice our self-care and prep that skin and body for the battles ahead.
Here is my first-hand tried, tested and approved roundup of a few items to get you through this season unscathed.
SKIN:
For those skin prep lovers, these have been my 3 holy grails of providing hydration, moisture and all the dewy goodness.
111SKIN CRYO ATP SPORTS BOOSTER
Hear me out, attending a Desi wedding is no less than running a marathon and a skin booster works wonders. Especially one that works to revive tired looking skin, a few drops help smooth, tighten and reignite the skin. It also improves the appearance of uneven texture and open pores – I usually mix a few drops of this into my moisturiser and apply.
A little goes a long way!
Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Oil-Infused Serum
This brand Fresh has recently caught my attention for all the right reasons, their Rose range is incredible, and I do not say that lightly. This oil-infused serum is all things dewy and moisturising and leaves my skin feeling softer and plumpier without that greasy feeling. I highly recommend!
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist
Last but in no means least, on my skin list is this mist – Shax, the incredibly renowned MUA introduced Tatcha to me during my sister’s wedding. This mist is so light but so wonderfully hydrating and prevalent on the skin that I had to invest in my own bottle. She applied this to me prior makeup and I also sneakily sprayed some post makeup to give me that healthy glow.
BODY:
This is a Weleda fan account – incredibly rich and suitable for sensitive eczema ridden skin like mine, I am a fangirl. A lifesaver when you need to slip on the bangles, the heels or even the churidar and a dream to apply and restore that exhausted body and skin.
FACE:
Ultra Violette Supreme Screen SPF 50+ Hydrating Skinscreen
SPF – need I say more? This sits so beautifully on my skin and works as a primer prior to makeup application and in even better news, there’s no white cast!
Stay All Day Blue Light Micro-Setting Mist
After spending hours of getting that face beat, the last thing you’d want is a dull, oxidised makeup face halfway through the event. This little Elf number comes at a bargain and is nearly always sold out – with aloe vera and elderflower extract it refreshes your makeup and is clutch bag friendly.
For The Event:
I still have nightmare flashbacks to my sister’s mehndi where my lengha clip broke mid-dance, and I walked off mid-solo with very embarrassed tears in my eyes. Since then, I never attend an event without the following list and as your self-appointed big sis I will also share the necessary with you all!
If you’re wearing your ‘sitting pretty heels’ stash those comfy crocs in the car or under the table for when the dancefloor opens. I know you think you’ll want to be barefoot or keep those heels on but imagine the sweating and swelling – trust me on this. Chappals or crocs.
Keep a mini sewing kit or a needle and thread handy.
You can never have enough safety pins or hair pins.
Lash glue saves lives – multiple uses IYKTYK
Mini deodorant and a refreshing body mist (perfume does not mix well with sweaty odours).
Mints to counteract the delicious bhuna’s and paneer breath – not gum. No one wants to be videotaped chewing like a camel.
For the social media babes, have your inspiration pictures and reels ready. You don’t want to waste time taking pictures you hate and trying to think of poses and fun movements on the spot. Find that inspo beforehand, save it down and lead the art direction. It saves so much time for everyone involved!
And most importantly, water is your bestie. Do not forget to hydrate. Your hair, skin and body will thank you!
