I started my 24th year in Mexico City, which already feels like a small miracle. Visiting CDMX was one of my trip goals for the year, and the fact that I got to celebrate my birthday there feels like the universe nudging me with a little wink: yes, you’re on the right path.
The day itself unfolded like a love letter to art, freedom, and listening to myself. I began my morning by touring some of Javier Senosiain’s works—his buildings that blur the line between nature and imagination. I went to Juntos Satélites and wandered through the park nearby, feeling like I was inside a dreamscape. There’s something grounding about seeing an architect create entire worlds from their mind. It reminded me of what creativity can do when you trust it fully.
Later, I visited Casa Azul—Frida Kahlo’s home. I didn’t expect to tear up, but I did. Standing in her space, with her paintings, her clothes, her colors, I felt this deep sense of resonance. I’ve always loved Frida, but being there made me realize how much of her spirit I carry with me: the dualities, the contradictions, the way pain and beauty coexist. It was emotional, but in the best way—like getting a reminder from someone across time that art and life don’t have to be neat to be meaningful.
By the evening, my birthday softened into something more intimate. I had dinner with a group of girls I met at the hostel, and it was exactly what I needed. No makeup, no bra, no pressure—just delicious food and laughter at a long table. For once, I didn’t push myself to go out or perform some version of “birthday fun.” Instead, I listened to my body. I wanted comfort, conversation, and nourishment, and that’s what I gave myself. Honestly, it felt radical in the simplest way.
Somewhere between Senosiain’s surreal forms, Frida’s blue walls, and that cozy dinner, I found myself reflecting on where I am at 24. I wasn’t really expecting to feel this content. If you’d asked me a couple of years ago, I probably would’ve imagined my life looking different, or maybe I would’ve worried I’d be “behind.” But standing there, soaking in the views of the city, I felt proud. Happy with the choices I’ve made. Excited by the fact that my creativity feels alive and stimulated.
There’s something special about beginning a new year of your life in a place that inspires you. For me, CDMX was more than a backdrop—it was part of the celebration. At 24, I feel like I’m finally learning to trust myself enough to let birthdays (and life in general) unfold the way I actually want them to, not how they “should” look. And that feels like the best gift I could’ve given myself.
Here’s to another year of leaning into beauty, creativity, and the joy of doing things my way.
